Some of the most beautiful attractions in the UK are in its hills, valleys and countryside. Whilst we also boast some of the best cities in the world, it is the rural parts of the country which really characterise it. Stereotypically British things such as country fairs, cricket and rolling hills all hail from its green areas rather than the inner city and it’s certainly something that we should embrace.

Below we’ve listed our 4 favourite rural getaways the UK has to offer:

Snowdonia National Park

Snowdonia is a beautiful place, perfect for escaping the daily grind and soaking up some country air. With stunning views, challenging mountains to hike up and peppered with excellent places to stay. Luxury accommodation in North Wales is plentiful, both in Snowdonia and the surrounding towns and villages. Whatever level of lodging you’re looking for, you won’t be short of options. Then you can sit back and relax after a long day’s hiking and just soak up the views.

Lake District

The Lake District has long been a favourite of tourists visiting England, and there’s no reason for that to change. With a plethora of beautiful lakes, all set in rolling countryside and green everywhere the eye can see, this is one of the best places to get away from it all and get back to nature. Keep your head down in a B&B by Lake Windermere in one of the small villages on the banks, or stay in one of the more populated towns like Bowness and you will find equal enjoyment. Days out on the lake or hiking around the perimeter or up the surroundings hills will all fill your lungs with country air and leave you content at the end of the day.

Yorkshire Dales

Yorkshire is the home of rolling hills, and the dales epitomise that. Hop in the car, on your bike or on foot, and you can move from pretty town to pretty town, taking in beautiful countryside along the way. A great way to experience the Dales is by coming with a group and going on walks together, stopping off in pubs and towns along the way. Group accommodation options are easy to come by so you won’t struggle to find accommodation for groups of 10 and up if required.

The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is a quintessentially English place and is an Area of Outstanding Beauty, which should be reason enough to pay it a visit. Packed with beautiful cities like Bath and Oxford, it is a great place for people wanting some city action, intertwined with historic buildings and quaint tea shops. For those looking for place to go and visit, Warwick castle is awe inspiring, as is the largest Norman tower in the world at Tewkesbury Abbey. It is also packed with ‘honey’ limestone villages, perfect for stop offs on a road trip as you travel around and take in everything the region has to offer. This is just the tip of the iceberg, the Cotswolds has to be seen to believed.
